Facility Manager Meeting 2010

Following up the successful meetings in York (2008) and Manchester (2009), the next Microscopy Facility Manager Meeting will be in London, at Imperial College, in January 2010.

The detailed topics still need to be decided, so please take part in the polls below and send your proposals to Martin Spitaler, m.spitaler@imperial.ac.uk .

REGISTRATION

To help with catering, booking and sponsorship, please registeras soon as possible! Registration is free.

Date, time and location

The 'Doodle Poll - meeting dates' showed that many people can only do the first week of January, so the definitive date will now be Thursday 7 (lunch time) to Friday 8 January 2010 (lunch time).

The meeting will be held in the South Kensington campus of Imperial College London (see MultiMap for details). This is ~30 min by public transport from Euston and Kings Cross railway stations, 10 min from Victoria station, or a 25 min walk across Hyde Park from Paddington (slightly longer on the Circle Line). For time tables and other stations, see Transport for London (TfL) Journey Planner.

Accomodation in walking distance from the meeting location can be booked at discounted rates (starting from £69) through the Imperial College Hotel Accomodation website. Many affordable hotels can also be found on South Kensington Hotels, many of them actually cheaper than through the Imperial College website and also in walking distance, but you need to check distance (e.g. TfL) and quality (e.g. Tripadvisor) yourselves.

Programme

Format and topics are flexible and open to discussion, please send me your ideas!! (m.spitaler@imperial.ac.uk)

Last year it turned out that discussions tended to drift towards smaller groups, so the idea came up to have dedicated break-out meetings on single topics. Several people also like the idea of dedicating some of those break-out meetings to BioimagingUK working groups which are relevant for facility staff.

Please let me know what you think of both ideas!

To explore your interests, I have started setting up a preliminary list of topics from email replies and the working groups most obviously linked to facilities 'Doodle Poll - proposed topics' - more topics will be added as they come in.

I propose you select all topics you are interested in, not just the working groups you are participating in, so we see what's interesting to most people and how best to organise the meeting.

Schedule

=> your ideas are still needed!!

Based on the popularity of last year's format (two half-days), we are going to have two half days (Thursday lunch time to Friday lunch time) again. This makes it much more flexible, for longer discussions, and allows for plenty of time for informal chats over a pub dinner. I still need feedback on the topics though, anything other than the BioImagingUK topics that you'd like to discuss?

(this is still a draft, open to feedback!!)
